The MegaMercs project is a, free to play, custom EQ emulator game server that has being developed with a special focus on the in-game mercenaries being totally over-hauled to boost their abilities. Aside from their past reputation for being a bit buggy, they were only useful for combating low end mobs. Special attention has been given to the healer mercs, not just in overall stats, but the focus effects for their casting have been redone for healing spells, mana regen, cast time, etc. Alterations have been made to eliminate the scenario of mercs running off, due to lack of confidence during a battle. They are not intended to be "invulnerable", but they will stand and fight until the end.
The server is based on the DoN expansion, with custom content added, including two new zones to adventure, as well as most mobs being slightly toned down for battles. The server is not directly intended to be a "solo server", (where all content is doable by one player), but it's setup for someone to go a long ways, with mercs especially. People who are boxing will make headway at higher levels.
It's currently housed on it's own dedicated machine in a data center. The cost is minimal, so this project doesn't need donations of any kind.
As per the policies/agreements set out for EQ emulated servers by Daybreak/EQEmu, MegaMercs will remain diligent in following those guidelines. This server is based off the last expansion released from the PEQ team, (Dragons of Norrath). None of the custom patch files we distribute for players will infringe upon the copyright owner's wishes.
